AtlasEdge announces partnership with AFR-IX Telecom to provide Barcelona customers with enhanced connectivity
Barcelona, Spain, [Tuesday 06th May 2025]. AtlasEdge, a leading European data centre provider, today announces that it has signed an agreement with AFR-IX Telecom, an infrastructure and licensed telecommunication operator, to provide a new Point of Presence (POP) that will connect AtlasEdge’s Barcelona BCN001° data centre with the AFR-IX Telecom-owned Barcelona Cable Landing Station (CLS).
Connected to multiple international submarine cables, the Barcelona CLS serves as a key hub between the Mediterranean basin and the Atlantic. Integration with the hub via this new POP will see BCN001° become a critical node in this connectivity ecosystem.
The partnership will provide high-bandwidth and low-latency connectivity, crucial for data-intensive applications and services, and significantly enhance the resilience and redundancy of AtlasEdge’s network, ensuring continuous service even in case of route failures. The collaboration also opens new routes for AtlasEdge’s customers with subsea connectivity to key hubs in the Mediterranean Sea, including direct connectivity to Marseille.
The partnership further strengthens AtlasEdge’s presence in the Iberian Peninsula, a critical hub for transatlantic data flows and digital infrastructure. The region now boasts over 100 data centres with a total installed power capacity of around 1,000 megawatts (MW)[1]. In addition to its Barcelona BCN001 and Madrid MAD001 sites, AtlasEdge is developing a second Barcelona data centre and a 100% renewable data centre campus in Lisbon. The latter is part of an ambitious growth strategy that will see the company invest more than €500 million in Portugal.
